Jimi Ganesh and the Truth is the proudly African music collaboration of tabla player, Nishalin Pillay, and multi-instrumentalist and vocalist, Vaneshran Arumugam. Nishalin has made a name for himself as the adaptive ‘session’ percussionist and tabla ambassador, slotting in with any sound. He has enjoyed a lifetime of learning with the tabla, playing devotionally in ashrams, touring the country with bands, and travelling to India to learn. Vaneshran’s voice comes out of a lauded career as a master performer and storyteller, having played parts such as Hamlet at the Royal Shakespeare Company, and more recently featuring in Africa’s 1st Netflix production, Queen Sono – for him, the guitars, flutes, harmonicas and jaw-harp etc. are also acting tools, means of collaborating to tell the story.
Collaboration is the approach that Jimi Ganesh and the Truth takes, with eclectic influences from old and new traditions. A Jimi Ganesh set is a journey across the world through theatrical soundscapes, powerful chanting and spoken word, original compositions and unusual covers and arrangements, all with a sense of mystique and mischief and a strong dose of social justice – that’s the Truth in their name – knitted into their mercurial sound which has a broad appeal.
A schooled keyboard player, Oscar from Deep Heat has evolved into a
guitar-playing singer-songwriter on the KZN scene, graduating from pubs and
clubs to White Mountain last year and more recently at Splashy Fen.
Having shared the stage with the likes of good friends Rowan Stuart, Steve
Fataar, Paul Arthur and Brian Finch, amongst others, Oscar performs with his
own authentic brand of humour and passion, singing warm inspiring songs of
the heart, and truth, and finding one`s way in life. He mixes his original
compositions with classic popular hits from Bob Dylan to the Bee Gees, Van
Morrison, and more..
With his unique finger-plucking style, and strong voice, it is always a
pleasure to have him onstage, projecting his energy and “Deep Heat” to the
audience, and adding his percussion and beats behind others.
I hope we maintain this momentum,- the planets are moving, just do, and let
go (quote: from my song)

Playing a variety of genres from reggea , gypsy, rock and funk. Eventually jacques realized playing in bands was never really a fruitful venture and he felt more like a session artist. He decided to start his own project making his very own unique sounds and compositions. A place in his music journey where there are no limits and he gets to compose and write just as he pleases. A lots of his inspiration comes from all the musicians he was lucky to jam with and all he learned from them.
David Marks works as a musician, songwriter, sound engineer, and producer of South African music. He wrote numerous hit songs including Master Jack, Mr Nico, and Mountains of Men, recorded by musicians from around the world. In 1971 he took over directorship of the 3rd Ear Music Company, a small independent record company interested in recording, promoting and producing music that was not considered as commercially viable or seen as too political by the major record companies of the time.
Throughout his life David collected material that documents South African music. In 1990 he established the Hidden Years Music Archive Project to safeguard and preserve the material he collected. The collection has been estimated to contain around 175 000 items, amounting to seven tons of material that documents diverse musical styles ranging from urban folk to township jazz, country rock, choirs, maskanda and traditional musics. The Hidden Years Music Archive was donated to Stellenbosch University in 2013.
